Biography
A life in material
Sculptor, painter, printmaker and naturalist. His bronzes join academic rigour with the raw tension of post-war abstraction and an intimate knowledge of the living world beneath the water.

Born in Zaandam, in the Zaanstreek.
1950s
Studies at the Instituut voor Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs and the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, under Jeroen Voskuyl.
1969
Publishes Karpervissen as Jan B. de Winter.
1973
Gescheurde Vormen / granaatscherven: bronze as a study of rupture.
1974
Co-founds De Zienagoog, an independent gallery in a former synagogue in Zaandam.
1985
Dies in Hilversum, aged 56, working until the end.
